Madrasatul Darul Ulum Al‑Islamiya is an Islamic school in Kasoa New Town, Ghana. Since 2014 we have taught the Qur'an, Arabic and Islamic studies alongside practical vocational training — raising children who are grounded, capable and kind.

About the madrasa عن المدرسة

A school built by two brothers, for a whole community.

Darul Ulum Al‑Islamiya (دار العلوم — "the house of knowledge") began in 2014 as small lessons for young children in a family home in Kasoa. Today it is a three‑storey school with its own mosque and minaret, a dedicated team of teachers, and classrooms for both religious and vocational learning.

We believe a child should leave us able to recite the Qur'an with confidence, read and speak Arabic, understand their faith deeply, and hold a practical skill that can support a family. That balance of deen and dunya is the heart of everything we do.

The history of the madrasa is the story of two brothers from the Eastern Region of Ghana and a shared commitment to knowledge.

Two brothers from Asamankese

Imam Jailaan Yunus and Mohammed Darru grew up in Asamankese in the Eastern Region. Imam Jailaan became well known for his deep knowledge of Arabic; his brother had a vision for a school where that knowledge could be passed on.

Mohammed Darru settles in Kasoa

Mohammed Darru migrated from Asamankese to Kasoa in the Central Region. His residence there would become the first home of the madrasa.

The madrasa is founded

The two brothers established Madrasatul Darul Ulum Al‑Islamiya. When Mohammed Darru travelled abroad, he handed the school to Imam Jailaan, who began teaching young children in the residence whenever he visited Kasoa.

With continued support from Mohammed Darru, who lives abroad, Darul Ulum has grown into a full school with its own building, mosque, dedicated staff and vocational classes — and a community of students who call it home.
